Giving Tuesday is a favorite movement in our offices.  With so much consumerism during the holiday season, it can be hard to keep in mind what matters, like the amazing work so many nonprofits do for local communities and citizens around the globe. Our CEO, Alex Oliveira, has been working with over 50 students from FAU alongside Professor Ann Root to create the Owls For Good project, which was designed to help more than 20 nonprofits in South Florida. Over the past 4 months the group has worked together to improve each nonprofits’ website, create and optimize their Google Adwords campaigns, create individual Giving Tuesday strategies and create impactful Social Media Marketing plans. One of the central goals was to help the nonprofits raise funds on November 29, 2016 – also known as #GivingTuesday. Below are some of the nonprofits we collaborated with for Owls For Good. What Is Giving Tuesday? #GivingTuesday refers to the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States. It is a movement to create an international day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season and is fueled by the power of social media and collaboration. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season (Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday).

Why Should I Get Involved? Simply put:  you help those in need. You also get a tax deduction (https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/charitable-organizations/charitable-contribution-deductions). Nonprofits play a critical role in providing services to your local community. Funding from government agencies has decreased quite a bit in the last decade, and corporate grants are not as easy to come by either. Many nonprofits depend on donations from the public, and participating in #GivingTuesday is a great way to kick off the charitable season.

How Can I Contribute? The best way to get involved in #GivingTuesday is to look to your local nonprofit organizations. Whether you’re passionate about supporting children, helping the homeless, feeding the elderly or saving animals, there’s no shortage of nonprofit organizations doing good in every community across the US. You may also find causes on the Giving Tuesday website or other websites like GoFundMe.

How Did Prediq Media Get Involved? Our CEO, Alex Oliveira, has been working with nonprofits for over 15 years. He’s been involved in different capacities with nonprofit organizations large and small, like the Alzheimer’s Resource Center in Orlando, Boys Town Basket Brigade, Red Cross, Habitat For Humanity, Habilitation Center, Pantry of Broward and many others.
